Bucear en canarias: la baja del Pasito Blanco
Al sur de la isla de Gran Canaria, a sólo 8 kilometros del puerto de Arguineguin o apenas 2 km desde el puerto deportivo del Pasito, encontramos este punto de inmersión,» la baja del pasito blanco», una plataforma rocosa en mar abierto de orígen volcanico en medio de un arenal a 17 metros de profundidad, en cuyas paredes y oquedades se refugia gran cantidad y diversidad de vida, siendo la estrella de la inmersión el tamboril espinoso.

Echamos el fondeo en la baja y bajamos por el cabo hasta la plataforma de piedra basáltica. La plataforma, visible desde los primeros metros, tiene un forma rectangular de unos 60 metros de largo por unos 20 de ancho, y sobresale entre 1 y 4 metros del fondo de arena en el que se encuentra. La visibilidad suele ser muy buena debido a que siempre suele haber una corriente moderada en la zona, debido a su posición en mar abierto. No existe una ruta predeterminada, y perderse es imposible, por lo que simplemente descenderemos por el cabo de fondeo hasta la plataforma y elegiremos una de las paredes de la baja para comenzar la inmersión en funcion de la corriente, intensidad y dirección, ya que es en las paredes de la baja donde encontraremos la mayor diversidad de vida y la más espectacular.
En las paredes de la Baja del Pasito se han formado oquedades y pequeñas cuevas donde se refugian gran cantidad de peces, chuchos, angelotes, pez trompeta, morenas y la estrella de esta inmersión, el tamboril espinoso o pez globo, que puede alcanzar los 60 cm de largo, y se hincha de agua al tiempo que expande las espinas que recubren su piel al menor síntoma de amenaza de depredadores, y que con frecuencia busca refugio en estas oquedades y cuevitas de la baja del pasito…
Rodeando la baja nos encontraremos con el inevitable banco de roncadores el cual atravesaremos dejandonos sentir la sensación de estar literalmente rodeados de peces por todos los lados, viendo como se abre y se cierra a nuestro paso. Tampoco podemos dejar de echar un ojo al azul de vez en cuando, ya que debido a la ligera corriente, es fácil ver pasar túnidos, rápidos medregales o elegantes águilas de mar sobrevolando la zona.
En la inmersión estaremos todo el rato en la cota entre los 15 y los 20 metros, por lo que el tiempo de fondo es amplio. En el momento que nustro consumo marque que hemos llegado a reserva, no tenemos mas que llegarnos al cabo de fondeo y realizar la parada de seguridad mirando al azul por si tuvieramos la suerte de que algún banco de barracudas o algún águila de mar nos amenizasen la espera.
