Buceo en Lanzarote: Ritchie´s Places

Ritchie´s Places es una de las inmersiones mas conocidas de la zona de puerto del Carmen, en Lanzarote. Algo alejada para realizarla desde el muelle de playa chica, es necesaria embarcación para acceder a a este veril de arena  que a los 15 metros se transaforma en una pared con abundante vída.

Llamado así por Richard, una guia británico de la zona que descubrió y popularizó el sitio de inmersión. Tras fallecer en un accidente de tráfico, el punto de inmersión pasó a denominarse por la gente del lugar en su recuerdo y en reconocimiento a su labor, el sitio de Richi, o Ritchie´s Place.

La inmersión es sencilla y no reviste dificultad alguna, ya que las corrientes suelen ser leves, paralelas a la línea de costa. No obstante, la profundidad máxima de esta inmersión ronda los 35/40 metros, por lo que es recomendable vigilar tanto el consumo de aire como el tiempo de fondo restante para deco, y es necesaria la titulación adecuada para bajar hasta la zona baja de la pared, debiendo permanecer en caso contrario en el límite del veril y la zona superior de la misma en torno a una cota de entre los 17 y los 20 metros.

Ritchie´s Place transcurre por  una pared paralela a la costa que hace una especie de «esquina». La inmersión irá siguiendo un recorrido u otro según la dirección de la corriente. Bajaremos por el cabo del ancla desde la misma línea de boyas que delimita la zona de baño de la playa hasta un arenal situado  a unos 15 metros, por donde nos deslizaremos en perpendicular a la costa hacia el veril. Llegando al límite, bajaremos por la pared controlando la profundidad en la que queramos desarrollar el recorrido, teniendo en cuenta que el fondo de la pared se situa a partir de los 34 metros.

En seguida pasamos a dejar la pared a nuestra izquierda pasando por el cañon que forman la pared y una gran roca situada justo enfrente, para abrirnos a una zona donde justo en la parte mas baja se han abierto pequeñas cuevas que son cobijos de meros enormes, de los mas grandes que pueden verse en la isla. Ojo, ya que el mero es un pez muy territorial y no conviene que nos acerquemos mucho a el cuando esta en la cueva, si no esperar en las cercanías, y esperar a que movido por su curiosidad sea el mero el que se acerque a nosotros. Son animales muy tranquilos, pero con su enorme tamaño, un coche o coletazo por nerviosismo del pez, pueden causarnos problemas.

No hay que dejar de detenerse en las paredes para admirar dos ramas de falso coral naranja y que son objeto de deseo de los fotografos de ambiente en la zona.

En seguida llegamos a una zona donde la pared parece derrumbada. Atravesaremos por ahí en línea perpendicular a la  costa, subiendo lentamente dependiendo de nuestro aire hasta llegar a 70 bares o al borde del veril a unos 20 metros de profundidad. Durante este recorrido no dejemos de mirar al azul ya que es frecuente ver pasar rapidos atunes y medregales. El camino de vuelta a la barca lo realizaremos por un roquero sobre el veril de arena que nos lleva en linea recta de vuelta al cabo del ancla por donde iniciamos la inmersión y que está lleno de vida pequeña como castañuelas, catalufas y viejas..
