Bucear en el Mar Rojo: La barcaza de Gubal
A pesar de que el Mar Rojo rebosa de pecios hundidos de todas clases en magnífico estado de conservación, el de hoy, la barcaza de Gubal, apenas es más que un casco oxidado. Sin embargo esta inmersión es una parada casi obligatoria en el estrecho de Gubal. ¿La razón? Es un arrecife lleno de vida, con una profundidad máxima de 14 metros donde la corriente suele ser leve, lo que hace que sea el lugar perfecto para que los barcos de live aboard y los pescadores de la zona pasen la noche y proporcionen a sus huespedes una nocturna sencilla e inolvidable al mismo tiempo.

Bluff point se encuentra próximo a los pecios Ulysses y Rosalie Moller, en «Small Gubal», por lo que suele ser parada habitual de los cruceros vida a bordo de que van a hacer estos pecios o bien como última parada y pasar la noche antes de cruzar el estrecho de Gubal hacia Beacon Rock, el Thisthlegorm y Ras Mohammed. Y es que Bluff point es una pequeña ensenada que tiene de todo:, una llanura de arena entre 10 y 14 metros de profundidad, los restos de una pequeña barcaza de unos 30 metros, corrientes leves, un abrigo para los barcos y muchísisma vida, fruto de estas pequeñas corrientes y de los desechos que tiran los barcos que pasan la noche en el sitio, lo que ha provocado la llanura y el arrecife tengan visitantes fijos, como «Helga», posiblemente la morena más grande que te peudes encontrar en el Mar Rojo y que habita en los restos de la barcaza.
Del pecio en sí, poco se sabe salvo que era una barcaza de transporte egipcia hundida en la «Guerra de los 6 días» por los israelíes en 1967, y los restos que a día de hoy se conservan hacen muy dificil elq ue algún día lleguemos a saber algo más.
La inmersión:

La inmersión transcurre en una llanura de arena dominada en su centro por los restos de una barcaza que hoy solo son restos de un casco en descomposición. La llanura está rodeada por un pequeño arrecife tan interesante como los restos, y lleno de vida. En esta inmersión podemos encontrar abundantes nudibranquios, langostas, pulpos, sepias, grandísimos peces cofre y caja, pez cocodrilo e incluso bailarina española, aunque si algo llama la atención es el número y tamaño de las morenas que viven en los restos de la barcaza, y el gran banco de peces cristal que monta guardia permanente sobre los restos.
La inmersión no reviste ninguna dificultad, y es frecuente que los guías te dejen a tu aire, e incluso que se queden en el barco, y de noche tiene mas vida aún que de día. Si hacemos la inmersión de día, conviene tener un ojo puesto en el azul puesto que el canal entre las dos islas, Big Gubal y Small Gubal es punto de paso de todo tipo de pelágicos e incluso delfines si tenemos suerte. Si vamos a hacer también la inmersión nocturna, es una buena oportunidad para familiarizarse con la zona para poder disfrutar la inmersión de noche al máximo.
La inmersión suele comenzar en la misma barcaza, donde podemos pasar un buen rato entretenidos con los restos, las morenas, nudibranquios, peces cocodrilo y los peces cristal. Al llegar a la proa, seguimos a la izquierda direción norte- noreste, hasta llegar al arrecife, el cual seguiremos dejandolo a nuestra derecha y manteniendo la llanura de arena a nuestra izquierda hasta que demos de nuevo con el barco. Al transcurrir toda la inmersión entre los 10 y los 14 metros, el consumo no es un problema, por lo que podeis recrearos tranquilamente en cada rincón escudriñando lo que en otras inmersiones sueles tener que dejar pasar.
Un paseo tranquilo pero que te costará olvidar seguro.
