Bucear en el Mar Rojo: «Jack Fish Alley»
De entre las inmersiones que se pueden hacer en el parque nacional de «Ras Mohhamed», una de las mas apreciadas por los submarinistas por lo espectacular de sus cuvas, cañones y contraluces es «Jackfish Alley», que une lo mejor de Ras Mohammed: Una enorme cantidad y variedad de vida con unos parajes y escenarios difíciles de encontrar.
«Jackfish Alley», o en castellano, el «Camino de los Jacks» es una estrecha lengua de arena blanca que rodea Ras Mohamed entre la costa y el arrecife desde este punto de inmersión hasta «Shark Observatory», y que es habitulmente surcada por grandes bancos de estos carángidos, los Jackfish, que surcan el camino en bancos de cientos de ellos, dando nombre a esta inmersión, al sur de «Ras Zatar». Anteriormente este punto era conocido como el «Banco de los pescadores», el «Fishermen Bank», por la lengua de arena donde los pescadores locales solían echar sus anclas y sus aparejos, pero desde la prohibición de pescar en el parque nacional, fue perdiendo su nombre y tomando poco a poco el actual, impuesto por los centros de buceo locales.

El punto de inmersión está situado a unos 30 minutos de navegación desde Sharm-el-Sheik, dentro del parque de «Ras Mohammed». El punto exacto para sumergirnos viene marcado por una mancha blanquecina facilmente visible en la pared del acantilado, todo el color pardo terroso. Tras acercarnos desde el barco o bien desde la semi rígida, nos lanzamos al agua y empezamos a sumergirnos por la pared disfrutando de una gran cantidad de vida y de una visibilidad enorme, aunque ya a apenas 5 metros, encontramos la entrada de la primera cueva, que se interna en la pared unos 30 metros, doblando en forma de «L» hacia nuestra izquierda, y saliendo otra vez a una profundidad de unos 9 metros.
El espacio es amplio, para alegría de los claustrofóbicos, y se ve luz en todo momento, por lo que no solamente no es necesario foco sino que merece la pena más quedarnos embelesados con la belleza de los contraluces y los cañones de luz cayendo a traves de los agujeros en el coral sobre la arena, que andar buscando vida dentro de la cueva. No conviene tampoco excederse mucho tiempo dentro de la cueva para no crear tapones, y es conveniente no acercarse mucho al suelo para evitar levantar arena con nuestras aletas y arruinar el paisaje al que viene detrás.
Tras salir de la cueva, seguimos dirección sur siguiendo la pared a nuestra derecha a una cota de 15 metros sin dejar de echar un ojo al azul, por donde podemos ver pasar escuelas de jacks, atunes, bancos de barracudas y con suerte algún tiburón, hasta llegar a una gran cabeza de coral que marca el comienzo del «Fishermen Bank», una depresión de arena que se abre a nuestra derecha en la que si seguimos el contorno por la pared, encontramos pequeñas cuevas y estáticos bancos de Glassfish.
Si no queremos detenernos en la lengua de arena, podemos seguir por su borde sobrevolando la pared, que en este punto cae casi en vertical, en una cota entre los 18 y 20 metros y dejandonos llevar por la levísima corriente que suele haber en esta zona hasta llegar al camino de los Jacks propiamente dicho, al otro lado de la lengua de arena, y tras sobrevolar un precioso jardín de coral plagado de vída. En caso de seguir esta ruta, debemos estar atentos tanto a la profundidad, como siembre que buceamos en pared y nos faltan las referencias, como al consumo y tiempo para deco, cuidando de terminar nuestra inmersión en el camino que da nombre a la inmersión, haciendo nuestra parada de profundidad en la pared de nuestra derecha a 5 metros, mientras buscamos tumbados en la arena tiburones de arrecife de puntas blancas que suelen venir a dormir recostados en la arena de esta zona.
